Important highlights and key points for proper antenna installation.

The antenna Installer may encounter various obstacles with individual kiosk designs that may require different placement, routing of antenna cables or drilling of holes to complete the mounting procedure.

Mount the antenna on the outside of the enclosure or kiosk or in a position where it is not surrounded in metal on the sides or top.

The antenna must be mounted on a metal surface to work correctly. If the surface is not metal, the antenna must be ordered with a built in metal ground plane.

The antenna must be mounted horizontally - parallel to the ground (not mounted on a vertical surface).

The antenna must be mounted to a flat, clean dry surface.

The antennas should be installed with a minimum distance of 18 inches from existing antennas or obstacles protruding from the sign or kiosk. If there is an antenna using the same frequency range, make sure it is mounted 24 or more inches away.

When routing cables, DO NOT PULL ON CONNECTORS! Pulling directly on connectors will cause internal damage and loss of the signal at the radio receiver, GPS or modem. When routing cables, pull on the coaxial cable only!

Troubleshooting Check List:
(If the antenna has poor reception, check these common issues first!)

  • Is the antenna mounted on the outside of the kiosk?
  • Is the antenna mounted on a horizontal surface?
  • Is the antenna mounted on a flat metal surface?
  • Is the antenna at least 18 inches away from all other antennas or obstacles?
  • Is the antenna attached snug/firm?
  • Are the cables connected to the right ports on the docking station? Cellular to Cellular
(WWAN), WiFi to WiFi WLAN, GPS to GPS
  • Are the connectors tight and screwed on all the way?
  1. Drill a 5/8” hole in the mounting surface where the center of antenna will be located.
  2. Pass the antenna cable through the hole.
  3. Loosen the nut on bottom of antenna and remove the slotted washer.
  4. Center the antenna to the surface passing the threaded stud and nut through the hole.
  5. From the underside of the mounting surface, install the slotted washer and tighten the nut finger tight.
  6. Press the washer against the threaded lug while tightening the nut with a 1/2” wrench. Tighten the nut approximately one to two turns.
